Camp Inspire, a local volunteerism camp, is launching nationwide after Robertson County native Presly Pedigo was crowned USA National Miss.
Pedigo, a White House local and the current USA National Miss titleholder, hopes to spread the message of empowerment and service to communities across the country, a press release said.
“I’m excited now that since I was crowned USA National Miss, I get to take that across the country,” Pedigo said.
After graduating from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in May with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a minor in psychology, Pedigo moved back home, ready to expand her passion project, Camp Inspire.
The day camp helps children discover their passions through volunteerism, something Pedigo drew on from her own experiences with camp over the years.
“I formed it through just my own passion from being a camp counselor with other organizations and just volunteering with kids,” she said.
“I have such a heart for service… always had a value to give back to others and I really wanted to spread that with the kids of today, so I created Camp Inspire.”
About 60 kids have attended the camp since its founding two years ago.
Local organizations that participated in this year’s camp included the Sumner County Humane Society and White House Fire Department. Campers participated in a local park cleanup this year as well.
INSPIRE the next generation
“Winning the title of USA National Miss is an absolute honor! I can represent this organization, advocate for the Inspire Platform, and live a life of positive empowerment and pageantry,” Pedigo said in the press release.
USA National Miss uses its national platform, INSPIRE, to help young women and girls find their passion for service and positively impact their communities, according to usanationalmiss.com/inspire.
Pageant delegates are encouraged to find their passion, serve and volunteer during the platform’s INSPIRE Days each year, focusing on making a difference through compassion, kindness and environmental action.
“Camp Inspire really hones in on those three pillars of the (USA National Miss) INSPIRE initiative and helps kids get connected to local organizations to find their passions through volunteering so they can make a difference,” Pedigo said.
“I’m really excited to expand and hopefully hold another camp in Tennessee… and work with more organizations to help get these kids involved. I’m still in the planning stages, but we’re very excited,” she said, noting plans to hold the next camp this fall.
With the help of Tennessee Sen. Kerry Roberts during her state reign as Miss Rocky Top, Pedigo successfully implemented a Go Inspire Day to inspire individuals to make a difference in their communities through acts of service, the press release said.
“I am excited to celebrate this day in the spring and help other titleholders from around the country implement the same in their home state,” she said.
Pageantry and beyond
Pedigo entered her first pageant when she was 15 years old and hasn’t looked back since.
“I just wanted to get out of my comfort zone and do something different. It’s really helped me to just grow exponentially in confidence and meet so many other amazing young women… I’m glad I went and tried something that made me a little uncomfortable so I could grow,” Pedigo said.
“I’m hoping to see where my education and where my career takes me, but I’d still love to compete or even coach girls in the future and help them as well.”
Young women are mentored on reaching goals, gaining confidence and life skills and leadership through USA National Miss, one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious pageant organizations.
