San Francisco Bakery Refuses to Serve Police Officers Due to “No Guns” Policy
In a recent incident, a San Francisco bakery has garnered attention for turning away a police officer due to the officer being armed. Reem’s California, a local bakery chain, has implemented a strict policy that prohibits serving anyone carrying a firearm.
The situation arose when a uniformed police officer was denied service at Reem’s bakery. The San Francisco Police Officer’s Association took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their discontent with the bakery’s policy. On August 24, the union posted, “”NO COPS ALLOWED. That’s the confirmed policy of the bakery chain Reem’s.”

Accompanying the union’s post was a screenshot of an email from Reem’s bakery sent to the association, explicitly stating that their policy is to refrain from serving anyone armed while in uniform. However, it remains unclear whether this policy pertains to all armed individuals or solely to those armed and in uniform.
Despite inquiries from Insider, Reem’s bakery did not provide an immediate response. Nevertheless, the bakery chain did issue a statement on Instagram that underscores its commitment to creating a safe environment for both customers and staff. In light of the ongoing issue of gun violence, particularly affecting marginalized communities, Reem’s believes that their strict prohibition of guns on their premises contributes to increased safety.
The statement expressed gratitude for past community support and conveyed the bakery’s temporary closure. Reem’s looks forward to reopening its doors soon and providing a sanctuary for all patrons.
